The City Church’s mission to Love, Grow and Serve applies in the creation of the City Church Family Garden (CCFG).
Allow God to reveal himself to you through His creation and His Word. God walked in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. City Church members are encouraged to take a walk through the garden and listen to His voice.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.” -Psalm 19:1-3
Together we sow, together we grow, together we harvest, and together we feast. The word “Grow” in the City Church mission statement can be applied in so many ways toward the ministry of City Church Family Garden. Let us be clear here – growing in relationship with one another is far more important than growing plants.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” -Matthew 6:26
Last, but not least, the goal of the City Church Family Garden is for us to serve others. While we have reaped the benefits of growing together in relationship and loving on God, the first fruits of the garden will not be for our own benefit but be given to God in the form of feeding His people.
“So the last shall be first, and the first last.” -Matthew 20:16
It is easy to get caught up and focused on the end product of this ministry – i.e. Can I plant wasabi? How much spinach can I take home? Who gets first pick with the eggs? Those questions are (1) to be answered by God, and (2) the harvest is not the primary goal of this ministry.
The CCFG is to be a safe place for members to enjoy the Creator, develop relationships with others, and give of themselves. The harvest is just a bonus.
